Waiting For Isabel – Week One – Red Feline Chronicles

The Post Production of The Passion of Isabel, began its first actual week. A lot of the post production work began the day production started, but this past week was the first week where the post production of this new film was Jac’s central occupation. He’s also involved in the promotion of the theatrical release of JUSTINE, of course, but his mind is in the post of Passion. If all goes as this first week was, Jac might have the first cut of the film in the middle of May, if not before. I will not have an approximate release date before the end of this month.

Have you ever thought of taking full body casts of your actresses so you can make corpse dummies of them. That way you can really make a crux scene real by filling the dummies full of meat and red barbeque sauce so you can show them suffering and dying on the cross and then show dogs ripping their bodies to pieces as they’re eaten

Once Jac was toying with the idea of making a body cast of Amy to use it in Maleficarum for the burning at the stake scene. It’s always possible to do something like that for a realistic scene where a body is either ripped apart by dogs or set on fire. The issue will always be the money. Maybe we’ll do something like that in Maleficarum II.

Yes, I can well understand that. Film-acting of any kind is tough work, but living an experience like that – even knowing you’re just acting – must be psychologically demanding as well as physically. It’s good that you’re sensitive to the way it’s affecting them. There’s such a difference between actresses who are really committed and getting themselves into the experience of being tortured, and ones who are just letting their bodies be used, for the sake of being paid. Your girls are burning with commitment!

Jac was fortunate enough to meet incredibly talented, beautiful and committed actresses for his films. They all have/had an intense personal rapport with him, of course, strong enough to have a lot of trust in each other to carry out all they did and still do. The payment part did not come into discussion until they sat down to sign releases and things like that, so, it never began as a money thing. The money discussion would be something like: let’s do something amazing and if it makes any money, we’ll share it. That arrangement made it possible for Camille to live and study film in Paris for three years without having to work at all, it gave Jac the freedom to pursue his real interests in film, it gave Amy enough prominence to grow in the industry and this arrangement created an independent film studio that keeps on growing.
