JUSTINE is (practically) DONE!

The final cut of JUSTINE is practically DONE! The film is in the sound design stage, which mean all those little details are added now, dialogues are cleared, sound dirt is removed, shots are cut to go with the music and so on. By the end of next week the film will be at the Color Correction and Final Mix stage. That will be the time when a date release will be agreed upon and announced. JUSTINE is coming soon to that large screen near you! (We no longer need to go to a theater to watch a movie in a large screen. We can do it at home, with a beer, nachos, and soft pillows). To celebrate this, the powers above me have decided to have a SPRING SALE! Up to 25% OFF!

To give you an idea of how our films make it as a whole, I have these results. I have the release dates of each film in the top ten list of all times because that shows how long it took for each film to reach the points shown. Clearly, the newer films are going higher on the list in a shorter time. JUSTINE is not on the list because it hasn’t been released yet. The rest of the films don’t make the list although they were around longer than any of the new, big production movies. Films like Fantom, or Aristocrux or even the Via Crucis series, don’t make it to the TOP TEN list even tough they’ve been around for over 5 years, some of them even longer. I have a top number of course, that’s 100, and I’m waiting to see which movie will reach that high plateau.

  • 1.- Maleficarum (2011) 88 points.
  • 2.- Red Feline on the Cross (1998) 70 points.
  • 3.- Further Ordeals of Red Feline (1999) 42 points
  • 4.- Red Feline Faces the Inquisition (1999) 39 points
  • 5.- Tribulations of Red Feline and Melissa (2000) & Dead But Dreaming (2013) 29 points
  • 6.- The Execution of the Condemned (2001) 26 points
  • 7.- Agent X (2009) 24 points
  • 8.- Le Marquis De La Croix (2012) 20 points
  • 9.- Olalla (2015) 19 points
  • 10.- Martyr (2011)Sirwiñakuy (2010)Barbazul (2012) 16 points

It is not so much as going mainstream, it is more like attempting to reach a wider audience. Maleficarum and all of the films that came after are not family oriented movies that will play for granpas, moms, pops and the children. Multiplexes tend to make the more money when they sell tickets to groups of 4 or more and that means families, thus, the preferred movies in those settings are all super-heros-3D-cute-animated-cartoon movies. For our movies, the distribution method of preference, and the most effective, is the sale of downloads and DVDs. However, we have the luxury of opening our films theatrically, which is not what most independent filmmakers can ever hope to do.

Maleficarum came at a time when Amy and Jac were very involved with GIMP movies like Agent X. But having made Sirwiñakuy, with very little money and managed to open in theaters, create controversy and be on the big screen for 5 months, they felt it was time for something a bit more complex and they decided to do Barbazul. While we were working on the pre-production of that movie, Ralphus, of GIMP site fame, had secret talks with Amy and very much like the serpent in the garden, offered Eve (Amy) the apple from the tree of Gimpage and, voila, an idea that was in Jac’s mind for at least three years became a reality. The films that followed were successful, if you measure success passing the line of breaking even. None lost money and all of them were far more successful than all of our Torture All The Time movies like Agent X. The new big production films made Amy and Jac well known in wider circles, with articles in big magazines like Fangoria and so on and so forth. JUSTINE is putting Jac a la par with Jess Franco, really, and he might move in that direction, producing crazy movies of all kinds until he drops dead.

The two new films coming up, PYGMALION and JUSTINE will certainly mark the end of a cycle and the beginning of another one, like Martyr Or The Death of St Eulalia did ten years ago. One thing is certain, the road ahead is like a blank sheet and we’re all ready to start walking ahead. We’re older, wiser and more experienced. We’re better known for our daring and outrageousness, we’re better equipped and many people are eagerly hoping to work with us, not just here, but in the US and Europe too. So, time will tell where we go from here. I know that Amy is preparing the Behind The Scenes clip of JUSTINE and Jac will begin working on the trailers as soon as he’s done with the editing of this highly anticipated movie. We’re heading to the days of the release of these two films and it’s happening very soon.
