Seditiosa – A Cycle Ending Film
Is Seditiosa the End of an Era, or Only the End of a Cycle?
In 2022, an offer of funding opened the door to a new adventure: a film about a female Christ, built around themes that would echo the universally familiar crucifixion drama.
Jac’s first point of reference was Mel Gibson’s The Passion of the Christ—a large-scale depiction of Jesus’ final days, with massive sets, countless extras, and intense physical brutality. Its budget was around USD 25 million.
Could a film with such a challenging subject be made for only a few thousand dollars—far less than USD 25,000?
That was the question that had to be answered before saying yes.

From Challenge to Completion
Funding was secured, and Seditiosa was produced in record time on a budget of under USD 25,000. Even within those limits, the film came together with a strong cast, a solid group of extras, costumes, props, and an effective location.
Released in 2024, the film currently holds first place in sales. Meanwhile, the other film that was already in production when the offer for Seditiosa arrived, 69 Année Érotique, is now in the final stages of post-production and is expected to premiere at a festival later this year.
Taken together, these two films seem to mark a distinct moment in time—just as Martyr and Nocturnia once marked the end of one cycle, and Pygmalion and Justine another.

Ark: I appreciate your work and have bought some of your films in the past, but not all of them. So I jumped at the opportunity offered by this initiative.
One of the films I hadn’t seen was Seditiosa, and I must admit, I had my doubts. I’m a fan of Amy and always thought that without her, films would be less captivating. Instead, Seditiosa was a great and fantastic surprise. I think it’s by far Jac’s best direction, at least among the films I’ve seen. The story is well-told with an engaging dramatic development, thanks to a beautiful screenplay and carefully crafted characters. Of course, credit also goes to the actresses: beautiful and talented, capable of embodying authentic characters with whom it’s impossible not to connect. The soundtrack isn’t intrusive and repetitive like in other films. But the thing that most positively surprised me was the use of editing. Jac took the scissors and cut everything superfluous from his film, focusing only on the essential elements of what he intended to express. This makes the story compelling and the dramatic progression truly engaging.

Ark: There’s so much to say about this and the other films (by the way: the shorts with Amy are wonderful), but that’s for another time. I’d just like to add one thing. I truly appreciate the work you do. The movies can be more or less good, they can even have some flaws, but they are the fruit of your enthusiasm and commitment. They belong to you, the ones who make them and put passion into them: not to some industry. And that’s a big deal, on these days.
One of Jac’s films I’m missing is Martyr, and at this point I have huge expectations! I hope you’ll add it to streaming soon.
There’s the feeling in our team that maybe many people felt or feel the same way, that our films will be less captivating without Amy. That same feeling was around 20 years ago after Camille made her last film with Jac, Martyr. She participated as Director’s Assistant in Nocturnia, directed by Erix Antoine, and she had a small part in it. That was in 2003. Since then she made of theater her life’s passion.
Martyr is part of the films we have in our streaming channel.

Amy’s ten-year cycle showed that we could continue after Camille moved on to other interests in France. And from the moment Amy chose to forge a new path in the United States, we have worked just as hard to prove that we can continue once again. Yet by the end of 2025 and into 2026, signs of another transition to a new cycle had begun to appear. In a strange way, this moment resembles what we experienced at the end of 2005 and the beginning of 2006.
The Earlier Turning Point
By 2005, the delayed effects of the changes that followed 9/11 had become impossible to ignore. They had unfolded slowly, but with overwhelming force. Everything in our business had changed, and it was becoming increasingly difficult to continue. The broader shifts in the U.S. economy were having a direct impact on how we operated the company.
Jac saw the shift coming a year earlier. He left the comfortable house in Long Island City (NY) that had served as a location for Martyr, the Red Feline and the Inquisition series, Nocturnia, and other films, and moved instead to the loft he had shared back in the 80’s with his ex in Chinatown. He set up an office and editing room in his brother’s building in Queens and began traveling, leaving his cat with his ex.
During a trip to Bolivia for a film festival with Martyr and Nocturnia, he received an offer to produce a documentary for National Geographic. That opportunity changed everything. In retrospect, giving up the house, staying mobile, and starting over was the right decision.

The cycle that followed was the moment Amy entered Jac’s life, and the 2006 – 2015 cycle began. In many ways, it seems to have ended with Justine—a fitting conclusion.
Which raises the question: was Seditiosa the film that truly marked the closing of the 2016 – 2025 cycle? Is there such a thing as the closing of a cycle? Maybe a transition, and if so, what comes next? Those are the questions we are now entertaining.
The decisions we make now and in the near future, the results of the work now underway, and the steps we take today will all help define what comes tomorrow.
What is already clear is that nearly everything around us is changing. The forces now influencing the path ahead include the challenges we face and the conditions under which we work, our methods, goals, and understanding of the audience, the new technologies, especially the rise and growing influence of AI, as well as the broader state of the country and the world
Some foundations will remain in place: our stores, our websites, and the streaming channel. These will continue to serve as the core platforms for reaching audiences and sustaining the work.
The previous cycles were built on a solid bedrock. Past work did more than precede the next phase; it shaped, influenced, and inspired the productions that followed.
Seditiosa, together with 69 Année Érotique and the other productions from the previous cycle, now forms part of the cornerstone for what comes next.
At the same time, every new cycle brings change. Some elements will arrive unexpectedly, while others will be discovered along the way as we move into this new era.
