JUSTINE is now like a comet in the sky

JUSTINE is now like a comet in the sky that gains strength and gathers acolytes as she crosses the sky. Or like a snowball that rolls down the mountain, growing until it becomes an avalanche. Maybe JUSTINE is not an avalanche… yet, but the film is growing in how it attracts an audience. There are comments coming our way too from people who saw the film, like this one in a FB message:

I agree with several others on the forum regarding the whipping scenes…AWESOME! Enjoyed your narrative of Justine

Our good friend and well known writer Dean has more to say about JUSTINE

DeSade’s famous novel, JUSTINE has been adapted by various filmmakers over the years, but now, in my opinion, Jac Avila has surpassed all others by his writing and direction of JUSTINE, with award-winning writer-director Amy Hesketh (Olalla) in the title role. My complete review will be coming, soon. In the meantime, I recommend that you see JUSTINE for yourself. Someone needed to give DeSade’s groundbreaking work the respect it deserves, and to give modern viewers a feel of the revolutionary philosophical ideas DeSade explored. Jac Avila has now done that, and more.

I remember the same arguments being used for previous films, including Maleficarum. Have to agree with Margot here. You were saying the same thing about Maleficarum 5 years ago. If I recall, someone even offered to buy the movie for you and you turned him down. Did you EVER get around to watching that movie? My guess is no. That one was actually good, worth a purchase. But it’s heavy on torture and light on rape, so honestly it’s not quite the kind of movie you would probably go for. I haven’t seen this new one, but apparently it does have at least one rape scene, although it looks like mainly another torture movie. It really depends on what you like. If the trailer didn’t do it for you, I honestly doubt a positive review by myself or others will convince you to open up your wallet.

Maleficarum was light on rape, sure, but the rape scene is very intense. In Dead But Dreaming there’s an extremely dramatic, turn your eyes away, disturbing gang rape scene, the most extreme ever done by Amy. In OLALLA the rape scene is kind of creepy, when Uncle Felipe rapes Olalla as a way of punishing her for eating up her boyfriend. In JUSTINE there’s some rape as well. I won’t go into details. As you all know, rape is not the main ingredient in any of our films. If there’s one kink that rules our films, it is whipping, from way before Maleficarum all the way to JUSTINE and beyond. In JUSTINE there are three rape scenes, none as intense as the one in Dead But Dreaming.

Reine Margot wroteSo much monitoring is a way of not doing something. There’s nothing that anyone will say that will make someone’s doubts be erased. I sure hope Reine Margot is wrong. Some of us have spent years reviewing films for this forum. I would hate to think it’s all been a complete waste of time.

To review a film, one must first watch it. To make a million comments about a film without ever seeing it, it is not a review, not even an opinion. I personally have a rule of thumb, if I’m interested in a film I avoid reading reviews until I see it. I don’t want to have my viewing experience tainted by good or bad reviews. Once I watch the film, then I read the reviews to compare my experience with that of others. When I’m not really interested in a film I read reviews and maybe those reviews will pick my interest. If I’m totally uninterested in a film, if I don’t really care, I just don’t care. I don’t read reviews, I don’t pay attention to it, I don’t even have an opinion, … and that’s that. Maybe I’m not interested in a film, and maybe I never see that film, and maybe I’m missing something good. I would never know, in any case. I believe, strongly, that JUSTINE is a film that has to be seen by anyone who is interested in the subject. Period.

Reine Margot also wrote: To clear things up a bit: JUSTINE is not a “porn” movie. That might explain Ralphus’ technical issues. I think he has a filter that automatically blocks any film of a non-pornographic nature. big grin

Hopefully the technical issues encountered by Ralphus have been resolved. While it is true that all the new technology we have access to has made the experience of watching a film easier and the quality better, far better than the times of VHS, it hasn’t come with some issues that we, as a whole, are coming to grips with. Just think of it for a second. When we started with the Red Feline experience, the transfer of our VHS tapes to digital image had the max size of 720 pixels, but it was not recommended because the computer would crash, so the rate used then was 340 pixels. We now have HD and the rate is 2k, going to 4K!, that brings problems into our lives. We need better computers, better hard disks, better everything. 15 years ago we had to copy each and every film to a VHS before shipping. That meant having VHS machines running constantly to fulfill orders. Now, the films are stored in a server and people have access to them with one click of the mouse. Jac doesn’t have to go to Canal street in NY to buy boxes of VHS tapes, and VHS covers to then copy the films and ship them to our costumers all over the world. Yes, everything changed and continues to change. So, we have to put up with glitches and systems and pixels and clouds and all of that. But once we get through it we can sit back and watch a movie in great form, on large screens, with very high quality. I’m sure most of our costumers got their initial kicks watching a terror movie like White Zombie in a b&w, 19 inch, fuzzy tv screen in the middle of the night. (BTW, we’re in constant contact with people having issues with their downloads)
