Some aspects were done better than others but overall it was a strong effort, in my opinion (and I’m a viewer who is not usually into long extended “endurance-style” torture scenes, like the kind Paingate and some other companies do, not my cup o’ tea). Other than that, the only films by the people who did “Maleficarum” I’ve seen are “Le Marquis De La Croix” which was similar to “Maleficarum” in that 90 percent of it was an extended exposition of bondage & torture, and “Barbazul”, which I thought was pretty mainstream/story-driven and would probably disappoint viewers who were expecting a lot of BDSM and/or fetish-related elements. I haven’t seen anything pre-Maleficarum. Anyway, that’s just my perspective on the matter. Personally I’d rather see more films that run along the lines of Maleficarum and de la Croix (with some new faces casted), but I see how the producers could find that to be a very limiting endeavor…just cranking out fetish films with the same basic template. It seems like hardly the kind of filmography that would enjoy acclaim from film critics and a wide audience.
Renzo Novatore

Neither Amy, nor Jac agonize about what kind of films they want to make. They both have their own particular interests. It’s very easy to see what kind of films Amy wants to direct and what kind of films Jac enjoys directing. They don’t lack ideas and the word “respectable” does not come into play. None of the films they have produced so far can be considered “respectable” if by that definition we mean “accessible” to all audiences. What pushes either one to go on with any film idea is if the conditions are met. Ideally, all the conditions SHOULD be there, but more often than not, they are not all there, but when the very basic conditions are within reach, the project gets the go ahead. Maleficarum had the big push from Ralphus himself, for instance. Le Marquis de la Croix had everything going for it in a Roger Corman kind of way, everything was there, the set, the cast, the crew, so why not? For Olalla finding the location closed the deal and for Dead But Dreaming, having part of the budget was very important. I know there’s no Bats in Justine so I hope the torture scenes are as erotic as Maleficarum’s which is why I bought it. I have a different take on supporting Red Feline movies because what other film production company wants to produce Maleficarum Bats kind of movies? If Maleficarum wasn’t created and successful and supported here and at theatres in South America there wouldn’t be any D.B.D., Olalla or now Justine and I wouldn’t even be an active member here, much less interested in buying any Red Felines movies.
Bill K.

Maleficarum turned out to be more of a success than we thought possible, when compared to all other productions. JUSTINE is having some initial success, if we add to it the IndieGoGo campaign, then I can say that JUSTINE‘s rate of success is excellent. This doesn’t mean that we’re not still limited, as far as future productions. We’re a small company, with very limited resources, making movies with high production values and very little cash. When I mention to people in the business about how much our budgets are, they think we’re just crazy. Other production companies can’t make movies with the values we have in ours for less than a few hundred thousand dollars. 250 G, seems to be the lowest they can go. We never go over 25G, and in the case of most films, never over 6G. Jac is the producer, of course, and he basically knows how to make every cent work like if it was 100 bucks. Dead But Dreaming has so much in it, that no one believes that it didn’t cost at least half a million. Really. So… Jac is toying with the idea of producing Maleficarum II where he envisions two BATS scenes and a lot of dungeon torture as only the inquisition can bring about, but he already has problems with this idea. His basic concerns are: the money, the cast, the locations, the props, the crew… everything. A voice in his head tells him write it, they will come. She planned to do some more work, but her life in France took a different direction and it became harder and harder for her to plan to work with us. I know a lot of people miss her, people like our dear friend Quoom, with whom she had extensive exchanges. Jac is planning a movie with her and Vero, playing two nasty sisters. If that happens, it will be a film shot in NYC at the end of 2017. Some bondage in that one, mostly consensual, but some GIMP scenes with nice victims of three evil but loving people. Are they the same audience? Cinema is not what it used to be, when there was a large audience for serious, challenging films, like those that came in the 70’s. We have atomized audiences now, what is known as niches. A film like JUSTINE and/or Maleficarum is possible with a low budget with that niche audience in mind. So, the thought is, do we have a large enough audience that will make it possible to make a film like Maleficarum or JUSTINE. The one that comes to mind is, of course, Maleficarum II. The issue to put to rest first, of course, is that of funds. We already have a couple of offers from previous donors who have made their intention to back that movie known to us. That is good to know. We’ll have to see how JUSTINE does out there before Jac an Amy make any kind of decision for the future. That doesn’t stop Jac from writing the script and coming up with possible scenarios for that story.
