Le Théâtre du Grand-Guignol or “The Theatre of Cruelty”.

Here at RF headquarters we’ve been talking about Le Théâtre du Grand-Guignol, also known as “The Theatre of Cruelty”. It’s one of our biggest influences here at Red Feline Pictures, so we thought we’d share our passion with you.

The Grand Guignol was a theatre in an old chapel in the Pigalle neighborhood of Paris, France that existed from 1897 until it closed in 1962. They featured 1000′s of original plays ranging in subject matter from crucifixion to rape and murder. Many of the plays performed contained bloody special effects, nudity, and extreme violence. It’s not a stretch to see its influence in our work.

Nowadays, “Grand Guignol” refers to any type of dramatic entertainment that deals with macabre subject matter and features graphic violence. And that’s just what we do here at Red Feline. Cheers!
